Chuck  has spent the last 20+ years in a dynamic combination of pastoral ministry, seminary teaching, and clinical counseling.  His books are practical and pastoral, meeting readers at the intersection of our spiritual journeys and the very real struggles we experience.

Chuck has started two church counseling centers, a Lay Counseling Program, and a Fellows program.

Chuck’s first book is Leaving Egypt: Finding God in the Wilderness Places (Square Inch), a look at how the Exodus story meets us in our stories of fear to freedom. His second book, The Toughest People to Love (Eerdmans) focuses on caring for the most difficult people we encounter. His third book Wholeheartedness (Eerdmans) brings a vision of wholeness amidst our perfectionism and shame-based culture. His self-published Lenten devotional is Falling Into Goodness.

An anticipated next book due in early 2020 is called When Narcissism Comes to Church (IVP).

  1. Hi Chuck, I can’t find out how to email you on City Church’s website. A friend of mine sent me this article on the Quarter-Life Crisis, and given your recent foray into the “young adults” risking relationships seminar, I thought you might find it interesting for your repertoire or a future talk. Not necessarily a Biblical perspective, but true nonetheless. It’s not too long.

    Hope all is well,

  4. Thanks for the article. If only I had been more self aware as a leader in the church. I have quite a story that is reflected perfectly in your article.
